Fishburn, Dunaway lead Cougars after round one
Lihue, Hawai’i — Patrick Fishburn and Spencer Dunaway sit at three-over-par through the first 18 holes of the John Burns Intercollegiate, Wednesday. Behind the play of the duo, BYU men’s golf is tied for 14th after the first round.
"We made some birdies to finish the round, but we missed a lot of opportunities," BYU head coach Bruce Brockbank said. "The trade winds have been strong this week and we did not handle them as well as we could. I am hoping we can deal with the winds better the next two days."
The Cougars shot a total team stroke score of 303 (+15) through Round 1. They are tied with Northern Colorado for 14th place, and are behind Texas El Paso by two strokes. As a team, BYU birdied 10 holes on the day, with Fishburn and Dunaway both birdying the par-five ninth hole.
Fishburn finished the day at three-over-par. Through 18 holes he sank three birdie puts. Fishburn is currently tied for 43rd with teammate Spencer Dunaway. Dunaway, who also shot a 75, birdied two holes on the day and eagled the first hole. Dunaway shot a team tournament low score of 34 on the front nine.
Freshman Austen Christiansen ended the round shooting four-over-par. Christiansen shot even par through the first nine holes and shot four-over on the back nine. He is tied for 54th place. C.J. Lee is tied for 63rd place, as he shot a 77 (+5) through the first 18. Lee sank three birdie puts, birdying the first, 10th and 13th holes. Zach Pritchard is currently tied for 89th at eight-over-par.
