Parkinson 3rd, Cougars in 1st after day 1 of WCC
BREMERTON, Wash. - Joe Parkinson led the BYU men's golf team to a first place standing after the first round of the West Coast Conference championship on Monday.
"The guys played really well," BYU golf coach Bruce Brockbank said. "It was fun to watch our guys and I was most impressed with Parkinson, who was solid all around. One of those days where everybody hung in there and played a really good round."
BYU finished 3-under-par for a first place standing in the nine-team tournament with Pacific trailing by one stroke at 2-under-par.
Parkinson tied in third place at 2-under-par and is four strokes behind Pacific's Byron Meth for first place. He finished with four birdies on the day with a team-low 70 after day one.
Justin Keiley and Jordan Hammer both tied in seventh place at 1-under-par with two and four birdies, respectively.
Jordan Rodgers and Cole Ogden tied in 19th place at 1-over-par with one birdie from Rodgers and a team-high five birdies after one round.
"There are a lot of teams close, so it'll be important to hit a solid round tomorrow. Everything that goes along with good golf is what we did today and we need to follow it up tomorrow."
The Cougars will return to action at the Gold Mountain Golf Club on Tuesday with tee times beginning at 8 a.m. PST. Live stats can be found on the schedule page, here.
