MIDWAY, Utah - BYU junior Cole Ogden was named the 115th Utah State Amateur Champion on Saturday with a 6 and 4 victory over Jeff Evans.

Ogden grabbed his first lead after winning holes 9, 10 and 11, but dropped back after hitting bogeys in holes 15 and 17. By the 18th hole, Ogden and Evans were all square.

The 32nd hole clinched it for Ogden when he hit it within 8 feet and Evans missed his 10-footer.

Ogden had never made it past the first round in three previous tries at the Utah State Amateur, missing qualifying for match play once and being knocked out of the first round twice. He won the medalist honor earlier in the week to be named the No. 2 seed behind last year's winner and was only the second time that the stroke play medalist won match play in the tournament's history.

This year, Ogden has won four local tournaments and hopes to play in the Pacific Coast Amateur next month.
