SAN BRUNO, Calif. -- The West Coast Conference announced Monday its October Men's Cross Country Player of the Month is Cougar co-captain Jared Ward.

The junior from Kaysville, Utah led the Cougars in both the Pre-Nationals Meet in Lousiville, Kentucky, as well as the WCC Championships in Portland, Oregon, where he captured the individual title.

Ward’s sprint to the finish at the WCC Championships (23:41.56) capped a nearly six second victory over the second place finisher. With the WCC win, Ward was named the 2012 WCC Men's Cross Country Player of the Year. Earlier in October, Ward placed eighth overall at the Pre-Nationals Meet with a time of 23:22.4.
