Former BYU runner Ward takes second at marathon championships
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – Former BYU cross country and track runner Jared Ward finished second yesterday at the USA Marathon Championships in Minneapolis, with a time of 2:14.00.
The Kaysville, Utah native’s time of 2:14.00 was 28 seconds off winner Tyler Pennel’s mark of 2:13:32. Ward averaged 5:07 per mile.
Ward, who finished his BYU athletic career in 2013-14, took first place as a junior in the West Coast Conference Cross Country Championships and was named an All-American his junior and senior years in cross country. He garnered All-America honors four times in track.
Ward is completing the five-year statistics program at BYU and is currently working as a student assistant with the cross country team.
When Ward had major stress fracture in June, I didn't think there was much hope he'd run a decent marathon this yr. He just took 2nd at USAs
