Thatcher named WCC Runner of the Month for September
PROVO, Utah-- BYU cross country All-American and team captain Tylor Thatcher has been named Runner of the Month for September as announced by the West Coast Conference Tuesday.
Thatcher took first overall in both the Autumn Classic and the Griak Invitational, leading the Cougars to team victories in both races. He led from start to finish at the Autumn Classic, BYU's lone home meet this season, beating conference rival Portland. Thatcher used a late surge to win by a half-step at the Griak Invitational in a field that included two top-30 squads and the No. 1 Division II team in the country, Adams State. Behind his strong performance and leadership, the Cougars have won all three races to begin the season.
This is the first WCC Runner of the Month honor for Thatcher, who last season was named All-WCC first team after a fourth-place finish at the conference championships. He was also named to the All-Mountain Region team after a ninth-place finish at the regional meet and second team All-American for his 38th-place finish at the NCAA Championships.
Thatcher and the Cougars will travel to Madison, Wis., to compete in the Adidas Invitational hosted by the University of Wisconsin Saturday, Oct. 19, at 11 a.m. CT.
