PROVO, Utah – No. 3 BYU women's soccer competed in its annual blue vs. white scrimmage Saturday evening at South Field, with the white team defeating team blue 2-0.

"We didn't do starters and non-starters for this game," said head coach Jennifer Rockwood. "It was a pretty even mix of teams tonight. Now after this, we'll start moving into more of getting our starting unit and getting more reps together."

The blue team had its chances early as Ruby Hladek had two shots within the first 15 minutes of the match, but white team goalkeeper Savanna Mason stood stout in the net and kept the game scoreless.

A send up the right side from Bella Folino and a cross by Ellie Maughan set up Erin Bailey for a shot right in front of the net, but a save by keeper Taygen Sill held the white team scoreless 20 minutes into the first half.

Folino had her chances late in the first half, but the blue defense was able to stand strong and keep the game knotted at 0.

The blue team had the momentum early in the first half, outshooting the white team 4-0, but it was team white who closed the half strong, tying shots at five a piece.

Hladek got things going early in the second half for team blue with a shot inside the box but was denied by Mason, keeping the shutout intact.

Folino broke the tie in the second half with a strike inside the box, via a pass from Bailey giving the white team the 1-0 lead, with just under 20 minutes to play in the match.

A goal from Ella Frischknecht, an alumnus on the white team, gave team white a 2-0 lead in the 64th minute. This goal from Frischknecht secured an eventual 2-0 win by team white under the lights at South Field.

The Cougars will next play in their alumni game Wed. Aug 10 at 7 p.m. at South Field.
