PROVO, Utah — BYU women’s golf finished 14th at the Marilynn Smith Sunflower Invitational after rounds of 317-317-161—795 on Tuesday.
Due to a frost delay at Lawrence Country Club, the final round was shortened to nine holes, making the tournament a 45-hole championship. The final round was played in sub-40-degree weather and 15 to 20 mile per hour wind.
Kent State (289-298-154—741) took home the team title after posting a 21-over-par total to best Sam Houston State (300-296-153—749) by eight shots. Arizona (308-300-150—758) shot 38-over to finish third, host Kansas (304-309-148—761) took fourth while Wisconsin (309-303-153—756) rounded out the top-5 at 45-over-par.
Lila Galeai was the low finisher for the Cougars as she earned her second top-25 finish in four events. The junior from Orem, Utah fired rounds of 74-76-40—190 for a 10-over total to finish tied for 15th.
Kerstin Fotu shot 75-82-43—200 to finish tied for 56th while Annick Haczkiewicz finished with rounds of 83-82-39—204. Fellow senior Allysha Mae Mateo shot 85-80-40—205 and Berlin Long completed the scoring for BYU with scores of 87-79-42—208.
The Cougars will be back in action at the Hurricane Invitational at the Biltmore Golf Club in Coral Gables, Florida, Oct. 31 and Nov. 1.
