AUBURN, Wash. -- The BYU women's golf team finished 12th at the NCAA West Regional Saturday in Auburn, Washington. They just missed a birth to the NCAA Championships by 10 strokes.

"We fought hard again today despite the conditions," said BYU head coach Carrie Roberts. "We had a good season and the girls worked very hard to accomplish what they did."

The Cougars were just 10 strokes out of eighth place, which would have earned them a spot in the NCAA Championships May 18-21.

Finishing tied for 25th, sophomore Kelsey Vines shot a third-round 75 (+3) and finished with a tournament total of 226 (+10).

In her first regional appearance, freshman Annika Afoa finished tied for 35th after a third-round 76 (+4) gave her a 227 tournament total.

After starting the final day tied for 94th, junior Maggie Yuan shot a 2-over 74 to move into a tie for 63rd place overall. Yuan was followed closely by teammate Jade Bollinger, who carded a third-round 79 (+7) to finish tied for 69th.
