Seventh Place Finish in St. George

ST. GEORGE, Utah. – The BYU women's golf team finished seventh in the 12-team BYU at Entrada Classic at the Entrada at Snow Canyon golf course on Tuesday. 

BYU finished the 54-hole tournament with a 78-over-par 942 total. Texas State won the tournament shooting a 28-over 892. Oklahoma State placed second, eight shots off the pace at 900 with Nebraska in third at 914. Illinois, CSU Fullerton and North Texas claimed spots four, five and six respectively.

Senior Maggie Yuan (14-over 230) placed 13th in the individual competition to lead the Cougars. 

"Maggie really had it going today,” BYU coach Carrie Roberts said . “She just had one bad hole, but other than that she was spot on. It was also nice to see the younger girls play well, Lauren (Atkinson) and Maria (Yacaman) especially.”

Maria Yacaman (20-over 236) followed Yuan for the Cougars, finishing 27th overall. Her first round 2-over 74 was the second best round for the Cougars throughout the entire tournament. Freshman Lauren Atkinson (25-over 241) shot a team-best final round 3-over with birdies on holes two, five and 10. Her final round moved her up 12 spots on the final day to 41st.

Other Cougar scores included Annika Afoa at 240 (77-84-79) and Amanda Keith at 243 (81-83-79). Playing as an individual, BYU's Selu Fotu finished 48th overall at 81-81-86–248.

As a team, BYU scored a 23-over 311 in Saturday’s final round. Oklahoma State posted the best final round, shooting an even 288, the lowest round of the tournament.

The BYU at Entrada Classic is the only home tournament of the year for the Cougars. BYU next takes to the course in the Anteater Invitational in Dove Canyon, Calif, on Monday.
