DALLAS, Texas – BYU junior Allysha Mae Mateo finished tied for third in the individual standings, while leading the women’s golf team to an 11th place finish in the final day at the Trinity Forest Invitational.

“Top three was a solid finish for Allysha Mae,” said head coach Carrie Roberts. “We faced some really good competition this week.”

That competition included five nationally ranked opponents out of the Big 12 Conference that all finished in the top five on Tuesday. No. 1 ranked Baylor captured the team title with a score of 865, followed by No. 11 Oklahoma State in second (879), No. 20 Texas third (891), No. 23 Kansas State fourth (903) and No. 14 Texas Tech fifth (904).

Tuesday marked Mateo’s fourth career top-3 finish after posting a three-day total of 73-70-76—219. Hannah Karg of Baylor won the individual title with a 5-under-par score of 211. Mateo and Karg were tied for second heading into the final round before the freshman from Baylor carded a final round 68 for the victory. Second round leader Maja Stark of Oklahoma State finished runner-up, while Nebraska’s Kate Smith and Baylor’s Rosie Belsham and Elodie Chapelet all tied Mateo at third.

BYU freshman Lila Galeai, competing in her first collegiate tournament, finished with the team’s next best score at 229 good for a top 30 finish. Kerstin Fotu (237), Naomi Soifua (237), and Cynthia Tu (238) completed the Cougar scoring. Together, the team shot a three-day total of 302-310-306—918, placing BYU ahead of Chattanooga, Memphis and Missouri State.

BYU women’s golf will return to action at the Rebel Beach Intercollegiate hosted at the Spanish Trail Country Club in Las Vegas on Monday and Tuesday, Feb. 15-16.
