RANCHO SANTA FE, Calif. — The BYU women’s golf team begins its spring season next week at the Lamkin Invitational at The Farms Golf Club in Rancho Santa Fe, California, Feb. 10-11.

“We are excited to get going,” BYU head coach Carrie Roberts said. “We start with match play which will be a great way to warm up our competitive juices.”

The match-play tournament will be hosted by San Diego State, with the eight-team field competing in two 18-hole rounds on Monday and one on Tuesday. The Cougars, listed as the fourth seed at the tournament, will first play against fifth-seed Washington State on Monday morning.

BYU returns to competition after having placed in the top-two in three of its four fall tournaments, including a first-place finish at the Edean Ihlanfeldt Invite. The Cougars look to continue its momentum at the Lamkin Invitational, a tournament formerly named the SDSU March Mayhem that BYU last competed in during the 2017-18 campaign.

Junior Naomi Soifua (182), and sophomores Allysha Mae Mateo (216) and Annick Haczkiewicz (237) enter the spring season ranked among Golfstat’s Top 250 NCAA women’s golfers after each recorded multiple top-10 finishes in the fall. Mateo posted the team’s lone individual fall tournament victory, taking first at the Coeur d’Alene Collegiate.

Senior Anna Kennedy and freshman Kerstin Fotu also look to contribute to a strong start to the Cougars’ spring campaign after both enjoyed successful fall seasons.
