PROVO -- The 2007 annual Blue/White Meet was a success on Friday night at the Richards Building Pool. The White team came out on top by a narrow margin, 194-190.

"We had some good races tonight," BYU women's coach Stan Crump said. "We lifted this morning and worked out earlier today but still we had some good swims. We keep improving which is what I like to see."

Coach Crump and men's coach Tim Powers split up their rosters and then assigned captains for the event. The captains were given full authority when it came to deciding who would participate in what events. The captains for the blue team were Zach Anderson, Celleigh McHenry and Tara Patience, while Neal Hamilton, Kim Ellsworth and Carly Smith captained the white team.

On the women's side, Tara Patience won two events-- the 200-yard IM and 100 backstroke. Senior Jamie Bloom won the 100 breaststroke with at time of 1:05.88.

The Cougar divers were also split up to take part of the annual intrasquad event. Diving Coach Keith Russell divided his athletes and they competed simultaneously with the swimming races.

"I saw some things that needed to happen tonight which makes me very pleased," Russell said. "But on that same note we still have things that we need to work on."

The talented core of BYU freshman had a great showing again as they won five of the nine individual events.

The Cougar men will next be in action at the Lincoln Shootout in Irvine, Calif. on Nov. 2-3. The women swimmers will next be in the competition pool on Oct. 26-27 at the Houston Duals.

PROVO -- The men's and women's swim teams will be back in the pool on Friday evening as they take part in the annual inter-squad Blue/White Meet at 6 p.m. The head coaches have split up their teams into two groups and captains have been named among the swimmers to take over the usual coaching duties as they will decide on who will swim in what events for their teams.

Coach Crump and Coach Powers will be on hand to follow the festivities so they can get the best look possible at their athletes before the get into the heart of the season. This is the last event before both teams go to large format dual meets in a few weeks as the women travel to the Houston Duals and the men to the Lincoln Shootout.

"It is a fun event," BYU men's coach Tim Powers said. "But at the same time we will use this to help us get one more look at our swimmers as we have some guys who are very close to making our traveling roster to the Lincoln Shootout."

Although the coaches assign their swimmers to either the blue or white team, they also name captains who are given the authority to make the decisions on who will swim which events. The captains for the blue team will be Zach Anderson, Celleigh McHenry and Tara Patience. While Neal Hamilton, Kim Ellsworth and Carly Smith will be the captains for the white team.

To add some variety to the event they will have coed relay teams that will comprise of two men and two women. They will be swimming the 200 medley and 200 free relays.

The meet will follow the high school meet order of events. They will not compete in the 1000-yard freestyle and the only 200-yard individual event will be the 200 free.
