PROVO, Utah — The BYU men's team trails only Missouri after day one with 286 points, while the women's team stands in second place with 234 points.

Personal bests and school records were the story of the first day of the Mizzou Invite for BYU, with 19 combined personal-best times and scores recorded by the men's and women's teams, along with a new school record set by Brad Prolo in the 200-yard butterfly. 

In the 50-yard freestyle for the men's team, Javier Nicolas (19.79), Josue Dominguez (20.32), Emerson Edwards (20.64), Luigi Riva (20.32), Brigham Harrison (20.15), Diego Camacho (20.45) and Evan VanderSluis (21.14) all set career and season-best times. New career and season-best times were also set by Halli Williams (23.29) and Emma Marusakova (23.59) in the event. 

In the 200-yard IM, Andrew Eliason (1:50.30), Brad Prolo (1:46.88), Tanner Murphy (1:51.44) and Will Bonnett (1:48.15) set personal bests for the event for the men's team. For the women, Mackenzie Miller led the way, posting a career-best time of 2:03.57.

Other swimmers posting career best-times were Regan Geldmacher (4:53.89) and Megan Bergstrom (4:52.95) in the 500-yard freestyle and Andrew Eliason, who swam a 49.12 in the 100-yard backstroke. 

For the diving team, Alexia Jackson set a new personal-best score in the 3-meter dive with a 336, and Mickey Strauss placed first overall in the 1-meter dive. 

In the 200-yard butterfly, Brad Prolo set a new school record for BYU, posting a 1:43.56, breaking the old record by Hayden Palmer of 1:45.91 set in 2014. 

Missouri leads the current field for the men with 393 points, with BYU in second, McKendree University (223) in third, and Missouri University of Science and Technical (95) in fourth. For the women, Missouri also leads the field with 493 points, with BYU in second, San Jose State University (150) in third, and Missouri University of Science and Technical (148) in fourth.

PROVO, Utah — The BYU swim and dive teams will travel to Columbia, Missouri this week for the Mizzou Invite from Nov. 16-18, and St. George, Utah for the Utah Tech Invite from Nov. 17-19. 

Following the duel against the UNLV Rebels, the men hope to continue their undefeated season, while the women are eager to bounce back from their first head-to-head loss this year. A number of universities will be competing at the Invite hosted by the University of Missouri.

In addition to Utah Tech and BYU, nine other universities will be competing in the Utah Tech Invite, including Fresno State, Nevada, and Pepperdine's women's team, along with Pacific, Cal Poly, UC Santa Barbara, UC San Diego, UC Davis and Northern Colorado. Final results will be posted on the BYU website following the conclusion of the events each day. 

A total of 30 athletes will travel from BYU's teams to the Missouri Invite, while another 18 will compete in the Utah Tech Invite.

Last Time Out

In the previous meet with UNLV, the BYU men's team bested the Rebels with a final score of 134-109, winning eight of the 13 events in the meet. The BYU women's team suffered their first loss of the year, losing by a final score of 139-104 and winning five of the 13 events on the day. There were multiple personal and season bests set by the Cougars in the events.

The events will begin in Missouri at 9:30 a.m. CT on Wednesday for prelims. Finals will be held at 5:30 p.m. CT each day. The events will be held at the Mizzou Aquatic Center.
