Lundell takes top-15 as Cougars finishes 12th
PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. — Carson Lundell earned his fourth top-15 of the season as No. 39 BYU men’s golf finished 11th at the Saint Mary’s Invitational on Wednesday.
The 2021 All-American concluded the fall season with a tied for 12th finish as he fired rounds of 70-74-71—215 at Poppy Hills. Lundell carded five birdies in his even-par final round to again find himself near the top of the leaderboard at 2-over-par for the championship.
San Diego held on to the 36-hole lead to win the event with a 7-under-par total after rounds of 275-287-283—845. No. 18 Colorado State finished second at 9-over after shooting 284-288-289—861 in the three-day event.
Saint Mary’s posted rounds of 285-293-286—864 to finish third with LMU (277-297-291—865) finishing one shot back of the Gaels in fourth. Santa Clara rounded out the top-5 with rounds of 281-293-294—868. BYU took 11th after rounds of 294-302-291—887.
Zac Jones finished in a tie for 34th after carding rounds of 78-72-71—221. The sophomore improved in each round, jumping 16-spots up the leaderboard after his even-par final round.
Keanu Akina who competed as an individual, finished two-back of Jones after turning in rounds of 71-73-79—223 to tie for 41st. Max Brenchley tied for 61st after 54 holes after shooting 71-84-73—228 this week.
David Timmins recorded rounds of 75-79-78—230 in the final event of the fall season to finish tied for 69th. Tyson Shelley completed the scoring for BYU with rounds of 80-77-80—237.
With the conclusion of the fall slate, the Cougars have three months off before fleeing the cold, Utah weather to tee it up at the Arizona Intercollegiate in Tucson, Arizona, Jan. 30-31.
