Alpharetta, GA -- The Lakeside Course at The Golf Club of Georgia challenged the BYU men's golf team and the rest of the field once more on Wednesday as the Cougars finished in eleventh place with a 45-over-par 909 total.

The field included eleven of the top-20 nationally ranked men's golf teams, and despite their efforts, at the end the golf course came out on top as no team shot under par in any of the three rounds of the tournament. No. 3 Alabama was the closest with their one-over-par 289 final round.

"With a tournament like this, where it's set-up to play like a Masters-style course, it is easy to get frustrated and let your game slip away," said Brockbank, "However, the guys were positive and had great attitudes throughout the whole week."

Daniel Summerhays lead the Cougars with a five-over-par 77 for the day and a seven-over-par 223 total. The 15-ranked junior finished ahead of four other players ranked ahead of him nationally, and as the top Mountain West Conference player.

Next behind Summerhays was Senior Nick Becker who got back on his feet

after a rough start in the final round. He finished tied for 30th at eleven-over-par 227. Fellow senior Clay Ogden finished one shot behind Becker at a 12-over-par 228 total after shooting a four-over-par 76 during the third and final round. Jake Ellison finished tied for 54th with a 16-over-par and Robbie Fillmore finished 75th with a 30-over-par total.

The Cougars, who scored 310-297-302--909 in the three-day event, fell behind in the first round Monday and played catch-up thereafter, posting two respectable rounds the second and third days, and finishing six strokes behind No. 9 Florida (305-298-300--903). No. 2 Georgia (296-295-293--884) won the tournament by eight shots over No. 5 UCLA. Webb Simpson, who was tied for the lead after 36 holes, finished with a one-under-par 71 to win he tournament by three strokes.

"Seventy-six was around par this week," said head coach Bruce Brockbank, "The greens were slick and unforgiving. The golf course got out of hand, but as a team we didn't play it as well as we could have. Bottom-line, we didn't get it done. We are going to try to rebound from this and get ready for our hoe tournament."

BYU will host the Cougar Classic the 19th and 20th of April at Riverside Country Club in Provo, Utah.
