Day 1

CLE ELEM, Wash. - Sophomore CJ Lee led BYU with a top-25 finish (21st place) while the team ended the Husky Invitational in 11th place, Tuesday.

"I'm optimistic," BYU head coach Bruce Brockbank said. "We still have a long way to go.  We need to find a way to finish out our rounds and keep it together through the whole tournament, but we had some good scores from our guys today."

The Cougars shot 47-over-par as a team, 11-over-par in their third round of play. On the back nine today, the team came out hot seeing back-to-back birdies from Lee, Spencer Dunaway and Kaimakani Ruiz on holes 14 and 15. BYU shot four-over-par as a team on the back nine. Plagued by bogeys on the front nine, the Cougs then shot seven-over-par.

Pac-12 standouts No. 12 Oregon and host No. 13 Washington finished the tournament tied for first earning co-champion honors. The Ducks and the Huskies both shot two-under-par on the day ending the Husky Invitational, at +13 with a total score of 865.

Lee shot two-over-par on the day shooting even par on the back nine. He ended the tournament with an invidual score of 222 (+9). This is Lee's first top-25 finish in the fall season, and the first of his collegiate career. Teammate Patrick Fishburn moved out of the top-25 as he shot six-over-par on the day. He ended the tournament tied for 34th individually.

Freshman Spencer Dunaway shot even par on the day, the only even par round from any Cougar at the tournament, and had a 43rd place finish.

"Spencer had a great round today," Brockbank said. "Shooting even par in his second college tournament is impressive."

The Cougars next fall competition is on Oct. 5-6, at the Nick Watney Invitational in Fresno, California.
