PROVO -- BYU men's and women's cross country teams will compete at the 2002 Asics/Pacesetter Pre-Nationals Meet Saturday October 19, in Terra Haute, Ind. The race, which includes 97 women's teams and 91 men's teams, will give teams a chance to run on the LaVern Gibson Championships Cross Country Course, the site for the 2002 NCAA Championships.
In the most recent poll the women's team is ranked first and the men moved up to 10th. The majority of the top 30 teams will be competing at Pre-Nationals. Because so many teams are competing the seeded teams will be divided up evenly and half will compete in the blue, half in the white race.
The women's team will run in the 6K Blue Race at 11 a.m., and the men's team will run in the 8K Blue Race at 12:10 p.m., all times are local to Indiana.
Running for the BYU women's team will be Kassi Andersen, Nan Kennard, Jessie Kindschi, Michaela Mannova, Katie Martin and Breanne Sandberg. In the women's 6K Open Race Lisa Antonelli, Amy Bair, Angela Benson, Jaime Cottle, Kristen Ogden, Tiffany Rust and Devra Vierkant. Laura Turner will most likely redshirt the season and Lindsey Thomsen is still suffering from a lower leg injury.
For the men's team Kip Kangogo, Lewis Jones, Steve Barrus, Andy Carman, Nate Robison, Matt Adams and Chad Durham will compete in the Blue Race. The men will also send a team to Pocatello, Idaho, to compete in the the Idaho State Invitational, which will start at 10 a.m. on Saturday.
