PROVO, Utah – After a weekend of diving at Zone E Championships, Brandon Watson earned a spot to compete at the NCAA championships March 22-24.
Watson earned second place in the 3-meter competition with his total score amounting to 395.75. On the 1-meter, he gained the fourth place spot with his total score of 337.45.
Also on the 3-meter, and for the women’s team, Dayna Christensen received eighth place with her total of 588.15. From this meet, seven divers from men’s teams and eight divers from the women’s teams were chosen to compete at the NCAA championship.
Watson’s performances at Zone earned him a spot to compete as the lone representative for BYU at the men’s NCAA championships. Hailey Campbell is the solo competitor for the BYU women’s team and will be competing this weekend in Auburn, Ala.
“This is really going to be a great experience for her,” said BYU head coach Tim Powers. “This will be her first time at Nationals and we’re expecting her to swim her best and get some great experience while going up against the nation’s best competitors.”
The women’s NCAA championships will run through March 15-17. Campbell will be competing on both Friday and Saturday in the 100 and 200 backstroke.
