Day Two of Champs Shows Cougar Strength

MONTEREY PARK, Calif. – The second day of the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation conference championships proved successful as both the men and women’s teams moved up to second place overall.

Events of the day consisted of the 500 free, 200 IM, 50 free, 400 medley relays, men’s 1-meter and women’s 3-meter diving.

In the finals of the women’s 500 free, Allie Dodds touched in at 4:52.03 for a second-place finish. Behind her were teammates Amy Xu and Alia Welsh. Xu reached third place with her time of 4:54.00, while Welsh gained fourth with a time of 4:54.17.

Rafael Alfaro obtained a fifth place time of 1:49.59 in the finals of the men’s 200 IM. 

Sprinter Taryn Toolson achieved a time of 23.39 to put her in fifth place for the women’s heat of the 50 free. In the men’s finals, Jordan Fletcher swam for fifth place with a time of 20.46, while Garret Beaman touched in right behind him at 20.50.

The women’s 400 medley relay team accomplished a third place finish with a time of 3:44.00. The men’s team grabbed fourth in the finals of the same event with their time of 3:16.82.

In Colorado, diver Brandon Watson placed first in the men’s 1-meter springboard competition with his final score of 398.20. Teammates Travis Day and Matt Denkers placed third and sixth place with scores of 333.25 and 302.60, respectively.

Dayna Christensen took the title for the women's competition on the 3-meter with her final score of 308.80. Teammates Syrena Miskin and Raleigh Willimas fininshed in second and third behind her. Miskin received a final of 305.05, while Williams scored a 269.65 final.
