COLORADO SPRINGS -- BYU junior Rachel Grant and senior Tawni Jones were named Mountain West Conference female Swimmer and Diver of the Week, respectively, Tuesday.

“We had two tough meets and they showed up to both of them, like all of our girls did. Rachel is swimming well and Tawni is diving well, so it doesn’t surprise me. It’s nice to have our athletes recognized by the conference.”

Grant, who hails from Walnut, Calif., earned 67 total points in BYU's Conference duel victories over San Diego State and Colorado State. In the Cougars' 195-105 win over the Aztecs, she won both butterfly events, finishing the 100-yard butterfly in 56.49 and the 200 fly in 2:01.28. The junior, who finished first in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:04.80, also swam the third leg of BYU's 200-yard medley relay that won the event in 1:45.70. Grant also clocked first-place times in the 100 and 200 fly events with times of 56.66 and 2:01.67, respectively. She also swam on the Cougars' 400-yard freestyle relay that finished first in 3:27.94.

Jones, a product of Mesa, Ariz., earned back-to-back 1-meter springboard titles in the Jan. 14 and Jan. 15 meets vs. San Diego State and Colorado State, scoring 311.55 and 302.25, respectively. The senior, who placed second on the 3-meter board vs. the Aztecs after tallying 297.53 points, captured a first-place finish on the 3-meter board vs. the Rams with a mark of 333.68.

This week’s award mark the second MWC Swimmer of the Week award for Grant this season and Jones’ fourth MWC Diver of the Week honor.

UNLV junior Kier Maitland and Wyoming sophomore Brandon Fischer have been named Mountain West Conference Men's co-swimmers of the week, while Wyoming junior Mark Murdock earned MWC Men's Diver of the Week honors.
