Women Comeback to Win at Lobo Invite
ALBUQUERQUE -- After finishing the first day of competition in third place, the BYU women's swim team rallied on the second day of competition to win the Lobo Invite at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque with a score of 948.
The two-day invite brought conference rivals San Diego State, and the University of New Mexico as well as New Mexico State University, the University of Northern Colorado, and metro State University.
The Cougars topped the field of six teams by more than 100 points, with second place San Diego State finishing with 840.50 points. BYU raced to nine first place finishes and placed at least one swimmer in the top five in 19 of the 20 events.
Team captain Amanda Grant, and sophomore Nichole Burrows led the comeback for the Cougars. Grant recorded second place finishes in both the 100 and 200-yard breaststroke, and third place finishes in the 200 and 400 IM events.
Burrows won the 100 and 200-yard backstroke events and placed fourth in the 50 free. She has now one at least one race in three of the four meets the Cougars have competed in this season, recording four individual wins on the season.
Senior diver Kelli Einfeldt won the three-meter diving event posting a score of 474.00. Einfeldt also placed second in the one-meter event finishing only eight points behind the first place winner.
