BYU swim travels to Indiana for CSCAA National Invitational Championships

ELKHART, Indiana — The BYU swim program will travel to Elkhart, Indiana for the second straight year to compete in the 2023 CSCAA National Invitational Championships beginning on Thursday, March 9 through Saturday, March 11. 

Coming off an MPSF championship for the men's team and a third place finish in the conference championship for the women, the Cougars will compete in this post-season invitational, awarded to athletes who met qualifying time standards or won individual competitions in their respective events. 

"This group loves to race," said BYU swim coach Shari Skabelund. "This is a wonderful opportunity to race top athletes in a fast pool. We expect to have a great time celebrating all the hard work this season." 

The women's team will travel seven swimmers this week, led by multi-event athlete Addison Richards. She will be joined by fellow Cougar swimmers Regan Geldmacher, Mackenzie Miller, Megan Bergstrom, Halli Williams, as well as freshman Emma Marusakova and Victoria Schreiber. 

The men's team will also travel seven swimmers for the events, led by lone junior Abraham Zimmerman who will be joined by six other underclassmen. Sophomores Diego Camacho and Emerson Edwards will compete in this weeks events, in addition to four freshman, Jacob Ballard, Andrew Eliason, Max Cannon and Will Bonnett. 

The first day of the NICs will begin at 9:30 a.m. EST on Thursday, starting with the prelim rounds. Athletes will compete in the 50-yard backstroke, the 50-yard breaststroke, the 50-yard butterfly, the 50-yard freestyle, the 200-yard IM, and the 400-yard medley relay and the 500-yard freestyle. Main event and consolation finals will begin later Thursday evening at 6 p.m. EST with all of the above events, as well as the 200-yard freestyle relay.
