Day three of Toyota US Open features career times and an outright win for the Cougars
PROVO, Utah — Evan VanderSluis, Emerson Edwards and Diego Camacho competed in Friday's events for the Cougars in the Toyota US Open, with VanderSluis and Edwards posting new career bests in their respective events and Camacho winning the 100m backstroke event.
In this morning's prelim events, VanderSluis beat his lifetime best in the 100m breaststroke, swimming a 1:03.34, good for a C final qualification. He would follow up his performance in the evening, swimming a 1:03.78 in the finals event.
Edwards also would swim his career-best time in the 100m breaststroke in the prelim round, posting a 1:04.69 to beat his prior personal-best by over two seconds.
In the 100m backstroke, Camacho followed up his strong performances yesterday to swim a 56.98 and qualify for this evenings final event. He went on to place first in the finals by swimming a 56.70, recording the first outright event win for the Cougars on the weekend.
This week's events will conclude tomorrow evening, as the Cougars will compete in the 1500m freestyle, 200m backstroke, 100m freestyle, 200m breaststroke and 200m butterfly events. Follow the swimmers live beginning at 9 a.m. EST and 6 p.m. EST on the USA Swimming website.
