Seven Cougar swimmers in national rankings after weekend's action
PROVO, Utah — After a busy weekend for the BYU swim and dive teams, impressive individual performances helped multiple swimmers capture national rankings in their respective events.
At the Mizzou Invite, Javier Nicolas' program record-breaking time in the 100-yard butterfly (46.40) has him sitting at 29th in the country for the event. Also in the 100-yard freestyle, Nicolas' 43.26 places him in 63rd after weekend events in the country wrapped up.
The Cougar men's and women's breaststroke swimmers had stellar performances in their respective events, with nine nationally ranked times being swam at the Mizzou Invite. In the men's 100-yard breaststroke, Josue Dominguez (52.99) finds himself with the 31st best time in the country, with Evan VanderSluis (53.03) following him in 32nd and Will Bonnett (53.18) and Brad Prolo (53.18) tying for 38th. In the 200-yard breaststroke for the men, Bonnett's 1:56.66 puts him in 45th place in the country for the event, as VanderSluis (1:57.01), Emerson Edwards (1:57.88) and Dominguez (1:58.24) find themselves in 53rd, 68th and 80th, respectively.
Capping off the men's performances, Brad Prolo's program record of 1:43.26 in the 200-yard butterfly has him sitting in the top-15 in the event coming in at No. 12, the highest ranking among any of the BYU swimmers.
Highlighting the women's swimmers' success over the weekend, breaststroker Mackenzie Miller also swam nationally ranked times. In the 100-yard breaststroke, Miller's 1:01.06 is good for the 56th best time in the country, while her 2:11.94 in the 200-yard breaststroke has her sitting in the top-50, coming in at 41st.
The men and women will look to continue their impressive season to this point as they prepare for the Toyota US Open held in Greensboro, North Carolina on Wednesday, Nov. 30-Saturday, Dec. 3.
