PROVO, Utah — BYU director of athletics Tom Holmoe has named Shawn King assistant coach for the BYU swim and dive team.

King was the assistant coach of the Dixie State women’s swimming program last season. He has 10 years of coaching experience, including stints in Texas, Idaho, Utah, Illinois and Florida.

“Shawn will be a great addition to our staff and team at BYU,” said BYU swim and dive interim head coach Shari Skabelund. “He understands all levels of developing athletes in the sport of swimming. He brings passion and energy to the deck. We are excited to have him in the Cougar family.”

King has coached athletes from prep levels to the national level with USA Swimming, including multiple state record holders, national qualifiers, state champions and Division I and Division II collegiate athletes. He served as head coach for multiple high schools, leading his teams to five 4A State titles and being named UHSAA Coach of the Year three times. He is a certified ASCA Level 3 coach for both high school and USA Senior swimming.

As a masters coach, King developed a group of 18 and over athletes, the SUSA Masters team at Sand Hollow. The team has placed on the annual Top 10 list for US Masters swimming, won several Huntsman World Senior Games titles, and placed in the top 10 at the USMS Spring Nationals.

King graduated from Dixie State University with a degree in Psychology. He and his wife, Heather, have four sons.
