PROVO, Utah – On the second day of the Mizzou Invitational, swimmer Josue Dominguez broke a school record and diver Nathan Gonzales earned a zone cut for the NCAA Championships.

“We had an amazing day with some great swimming,” BYU head coach John Brooks said. “Josue breaking a school record and others earning top-five placements made for an even better day.”

The Cougars didn’t let up the second day as Josue Dominguez broke his own school record in the 100-yard breaststroke, finishing at 52.90.

Several BYU swimmers had impressive races with many earning spots in BYU's all-time bests. After claiming the program’s No. 4 spot in the men’s 200-yard IM on the first day, Tyler Edlefsen recorded BYU's No. 2 all-time best in the 400-yard IM with a time of 3:47.09. Teammate Katie McBratney also earned the No. 3 spot swimming a 1:01.42 in the women’s 100-yard breaststroke.

Levi Jensen and Ryan Sorenson both increased their No. 2 and No. 3 spots in the charts with faster times of 53.38 and 53.82, respectively. In addition, Brynn Sproul moved up to BYU’s No. 2 spot in the women’s 100-yard backstroke at 53.29.

Many Cougars placed in the top 10 during the competition, including Brayden Murphy who placed tenth in the 100-yard backstroke with a career-best time of 49.40. Garrett Anderson and Tanner Murphy took eighth and ninth in the men’s 400-yard individual medley event with times of 3:58.37 and 3:58.41, respectively.

Both the men and women's teams placed in the top five in the 200-yard medley relay with the men coming in third and the women coming in fourth.

For diving, Nathan Gonzales earned a zone cut, placing third in finals with a score of 338.40. Eric Muir competed alongside Gonzales in the finals placing sixth with a score of 283.20.
