FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Nathan Gonzales placed sixth in the men’s 1-meter for BYU on the second day of the Zone E Diving Championships.

“I am proud of the divers that handled the pressure of the second day of competition,” BYU dive coach Tyce Routson said. “We had to stay consistent in prelims and finals just to be in the running. Our men followed the game plan and stayed in it until the last dive.”

Gonzales finished sixth in the men’s 1-meter with a final score of 661.40 on Tuesday. Gonzales recorded a score of 324.50 in prelims and added 336.90 in finals. The difference between fifth place, the NCAA cut off, and Gonzales sixth place score was only 1.20 points.

Three other BYU men divers qualified for finals including Matt Denkers with a 311.30, Bryce Farabee at 297.50 and Morgan Cooper earning 269.15. At the end of finals, Denkers recorded a total score of 600.00 for 13th place, Farabee followed in 14th with 599.95 and Cooper finished in 16th with 567.75.
