Three incoming freshman divers compete in national competitions

PROVO, Utah - Three incoming BYU freshman divers travel to national competitions across the United States.

Elizabeth Holmes, a recent graduate from Bingham High School travels to Columbus, Ohio, to compete in the 2017 USA Diving Summer Nationals.

“Lizzie Holmes has a competitor’s grit and has done some of her best performances with a little bit of adversity,” BYU head diving coach Tyce Routson said. “I am looking forward to her performances at Nationals and she has a great opportunity to up her game against the nation’s best divers.”

Holmes will compete at Ohio State University against 600 of the nation’s best junior and senior level divers for 30 individual national titles and a chance to represent Team USA at the 2017 Junior Pan American Championships.

The junior session of the competition starts Saturday, July 30 where Holmes will compete in the 1-meter and platform.  Holmes will compete again in the senior session August 4 on the 1-meter.

Two other incoming freshmen, Morgan Paul and Kaylie Jackson, are also currently competing at the Amateur Athletic Union Nationals (AAU) held in Huntersville, North Carolina from July 22nd to July 29th.

Paul, originally from Libertyville, Illinois, placed eighth in the 2016 Girls’ Illinois State Championships.  Jackson went to Perry High School in Gilbert, Arizona, and helped her high school place third at Arizona’s 2016 Division I Swimming and Diving Championships.
