Three men rank in top 10 in the 3-meter diving
ATLANTA, Georgia - Matt Denkers, Kevin Dreesen and Jordan Tuckfield from BYU performed in the top 10 during the 3-meter finals on Friday in Georgia.
"The men had a good team performance with three athletes from BYU ranking in the top 10," said BYU head diving coach Tyce Routson. "Jordan Tuckfield had a steady performance and made his first final in this competitive setting. Keyka (Erica) Lienhard was consistent and performed at the top for our women's team."
Junior Denkers from Fishers, Indiana had the top score for the Cougars with a total of 320.25 in the 3-meter. He took seventh place with senior Dressen from El Cajon, California following right behind in eighth with 318.60. Tuckfield, a senior from Sandy, Utah, placed10th overall and received 297.55 total points.
Lienhard placed 32nd in the women's 1-meter event and had 209.20 points awarded for her performance. Kaitlyn Abernathy followed in 35th with a score of 202.35 with Shelby Johnson coming in 38th with 191.50.
Saturday is the cap of the three-day meet, with the divers participating in the platform event. The women's team are scheduled to dive in the 12th event and the men's will compete right after in the 13th.
"I am excited for our first platform competition this year. I am proud of the effort the team has put into learning a competitive platform list in a short period of time."
