Last dual of 2016 this weekend

PROVO, Utah– Swim and Dive teams from BYU travel to Nevada to compete in their final dual of 2016 against UNLV on Saturday (Nov. 5).  

"UNLV is a team that we have competed against for many years and I expect a close and competitive meet for our men’s and women’s teams," head BYU coach John Brooks said. “Since the meet will be in Nevada, we will be swimming somewhat at sea-level and that will be good for us. This is a meet we can win.”

Before coming to BYU, Brooks worked as an assistant swim coach at UNLV (2007-08) where he assisted the Rebels in winning conference titles during both seasons. He also had seven swimmers quality for the NCAA Championships in the course of his time there.

The Cougars are well-acquainted with UNLV, having competed against them in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation and the Mountain West Conference. BYU’s men have won the MPSF title four of the five years that it has been a part of that conference. UNLV is no longer in the MPSF, but has membership in the MWC for the women and the Western Athletic Conference for the men.

BYU’s women’s team has consistently competed in swim meets every weekend since Sept. 17. Most recently, they competed against UC Davis in California. The men’s swim and dive team has been idle from competition since the meet against Arizona State on Oct. 22.

The diving portion of the meet will begin at 9 a.m and swimming events begin at 11 a.m. PDT.
