NCAA Zone E Diving Championships-Day 1
FLAGSTAFF, Arizona – Matt Denkers led the BYU divers Monday in the NCAA Zone E Diving Championships at the Northern Arizona University Aquatic and Tennis Center.
“We have a great opportunity for the men and women to step up to the challenge during tomorrow’s events,” BYU head diving coach Tyce Routson said. “They will have to be in attack mode to reach those NCAA spots. I am excited to see their potential.”
In the women’s 1-meter preliminaries, Ali Tippetts-Kottcamp was the top performer for BYU, barely missing the finals with a 250.90 for twenty-fourth place.
Denkers, a sophomore from Fishers, Indiana, and Kevin Dreesen both qualified for the finals in the men’s 3-meter event, diving preliminary scores of 316.00 and 317.60, respectively. Denkers posted the best finish for BYU in the finals with a 656.00, good enough for sixteenth.
The diving will continue Tuesday at 11 a.m. MST. Fans can follow results live at divemeets.com and full results will be posted following the meet on the men’s and women’s schedule pages at www.byucougars.com.
