BYU swimmers qualify for 2016 U.S. Olympic Team Trials

PROVO, Utah–Four BYU swimmers have met qualifying times in events for the 2016 U.S. Olympic Team Trials taking place in Omaha, Nebraska, from June 26-July 3.

Senior Jake Taylor qualified for the 100-meter backstroke event last year, but was able to shave time off his best finish at the 2015 national championships in August, posting a time of 54.60. He also qualified for the 200 backstroke at the championships, finishing with a time of 2:00.74. Recent graduate Hayden Palmer was also able to qualify for the 400 individual medley at the national championships, posting a 4:26.30 finish in the event time trials.

Incoming freshmen Ellie Thornbrue and Connor Stirling have also already qualified for the Olympic Trials before starting off their first season at BYU. Thornbrue met the qualifying time for the 100 butterfly at the 2015 Central California Western Zone Senior Championships, finishing in 1:01.13. Stirling has already met the Olympic trial cut in the 50 freestyle, posting a finishing time of 23.13.

Swimmers have until next year at the Olympic Team Trials entry closing to meet qualifying times for events. For more information about qualifying times, visit the USA Swimming website.
