Campbell finishes her career at NCAA Championships

MINNEAPOLIS – Representing BYU athletics in the final meet of her career, Hailey Campbell swam the 100- and 200-yard backstroke in the NCAA Division I Swimming and Diving Championships at the University of Minnesota, Twin Lakes.

“I didn’t swim as well as I wanted to, but it was the best ending that I could have to my swimming career” Campbell said. “To finish my race and then look up and see my family and everyone else that has been there form the beginning cheering and crying was so amazing.”

In the 100 back she swam a 54.42, taking 45^th place in the preliminaries. The finals qualifiers in the event swam a time of 52.64 to 50.91.

“It pretty much took everything to get here,” BYU head coach John Brooks said. “We’re happy to have someone represent BYU, and we hope to have more people represent BYU at NCAAs in the future.”

In the 200 back Campbell finished 50^th in 1:59.30 in the preliminaries on Saturday. The top qualifiers finished with times between 1:53.72 and 1:51.84.

“She’s such a tough competitor and always does her very best every she swims. She’s been reliable for years for as long as she’s been at BYU, and we hope that she’ll always come back to BYU,” Brooks said.
