PROVO, Utah – Mid-season training in Puerto Rico is over for the BYU swim and dive teams which means it’s time for the Cougars to head into the last half of their season schedule.

“It was a great experience for our team to train in Puerto Rico,” BYU head coach John Brooks said. “It provided great training for our swimmers and for our divers as well. I feel really good where we’re at right now. We’re in really good shape.”

Over the holiday break, many of the Cougars traveled to Puerto Rico where they swam in great conditions and against good competition to help prepare themselves for the tougher half of their 2013-2014 schedule.

The swimmers trained and competed against the University of Puerto Rico Mayaguez and Colegio La Salle, while the divers trained with South Dakota University. The Cougars swam at the UPRM pool, the RUM Natatorium, which features a 50-meter pool with wider lane space -- great for athlete training.

The Cougars are now looking towards the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Swimming and Diving Championships and possibly NCAA Championships. To start the 2014 season schedule, this weekend they will face Denver and New Mexico in Denver, Colo. Next weekend, Jan. 24, BYU will host Utah for this year’s Deseret Duel matchup.
