Freshman Murphy honored in weekly award

PROVO, Utah - Freshman Michele Murphy of the No. 17/8 BYU women's soccer team was honored this week as collegesoccer360.com's Primetime Player of the Week

Murphy helped lead the Cougars to a pair of victories last week over Texas and then-No. 6 Penn State.

Against the Longhorns, Murphy scored twice in a four-minute span to extend BYU's 1-0 lead to 3-0 on their way to a 5-0 win. Against Penn State, with the Cougars holding a 2-1 lead, Murphy scored her third goal of the week on a header for the final 3-1 score. 

The Sandy, Utah, native leads the squad with nine points off four goals and an assist. Murphy has also tallied 12 shots.

The team finishes up its six-game home swing with two this week against Cal Poly on Thursday, Sept. 13, at 7 p.m. MDT and No. 23 Washington on Saturday, Sept. 15, at 7 p.m. MDT.
