PROVO - The BYU women's soccer team led the nation in total attendance, and placed second for average attendance, for the 2011 season with 31,697 fans flocking to South Field to see the team play.
The Cougars averaged 2,882 fans per game for the second-place standing.
Giving the West Coast Conference the top two spots, Portland was first in the nation for its attendance average as the only school in the country to average more than 3,000 fans per game. The Pilots saw a total of 31,103 fans at Merlo Field.
Santa Clara was the only other WCC team in the Top 25 with an average of 1,016 fans per game.
All but three of BYU's games in 2011 were broadcast on national television by BYUtv or the Fox Soccer Channel and four of last year's games at South Field made it into the Top 10 of BYU's Home Attendance Records.
