PROVO -- Earning itself a first-round bye with a second place finish in the regular season, the No. 18 BYU women's soccer team will head to San Diego this week to play in the semifinals of the 2010 Mountain West Conference tournament on Thursday at 3 p.m. PT.

The second-seeded Cougars will play the winner of Wednesday's game between No. 3 seed San Diego State and No. 5 seed Wyoming.

In the regular season BYU defeated both the Aztecs and the Cowgirls. The Cougars took down the Cowgirls with a 4-1 final score and defeated the Aztecs in a 1-0 shutout on Senior Night.

The last three years of conference action for BYU have been successful with two first place finishes and a second place finish last year. The Cougars are 16-4-1 all-time in conference action with a 1-0 playoff record against Wyoming and 3-2 record against San Diego State.

Senior Kassidy Shumway leads the Cougar offense with 17 points on six goals and five assists. The Cougars have a total of 10 different players who have all recorded goals in the 2010 season including two defenders, five forwards and three midfielders.

The traveling Cougars will play in San Diego with a 14-3-2 overall record, going 5-1-1 in conference action, after their most recent 2-1 victory over instate rival Utah in Salt Lake City.
