Marshall Receives Player of the Week And More
PROVO -- BYU forward Jennie Marshall received her first career Mountain West Conference Player of the Week citation, as announced earlier this morning, and two more national awards for her performance.
Marshall's Offensive Player of the Week nomination comes after No. 10 BYU's undefeated week over two top-ranked opponents, Northwestern and Washington State.
A Modesto, Calif., native, Marshall started both games last week, scored three goals and tallied a total of five shots. She began the week by recording a goal at the 16:53 mark against Northwestern, propelling the Cougars to a 2-1 victory over the Wildcats, and capped off the week by netting two more goals in BYU's 3-1 victory over Washington State.
Marshall jumpstarted the Cougar offense against Washington State, breaking a scoreless game with a goal in the 52nd minute. With BYU holding the 2-1 lead late in the match, Marshall sealed the Cougar win with her second goal of the match in the 85th minute.
With two wins over top-25 teams, Marshall's performance last week was also recognized nationally.
TopDrawerSoccer.com and CollegeSoccer360.com both named Marshall to their respective Teams of the Week, as the only player from the Mountain West Conference.
Come see the Cougars in action this week with games against LSU on Thursday, Sept. 9, and Marquette on Saturday, Sept. 11. Both games are set to start at 7 p.m. on South Field.
