No. 8 BYU Gets Top Seed in MWC Women's Soccer Tourney

PROVO, Utah (Nov. 1, 2009) For the second consecutive year, the No. 6 ranked BYU women’s soccer team won the MWC regular-season title and will be the No. 1 seed in the 2009 MWC Women’s Soccer Tournament to be played in Provo, Nov. 4-7.

BYU (16-2-2) clinched its sixth MWC regular-season title with a 6-0-1 record, its only tie, a 2-2-overtime decision at San Diego State.

In the MWC tournament, BYU has a 15-3-1 all-time record, they’ve been the no. 1 seed seven times, have won both the regular season title and the conference tournament five times, and this year marks the fourth time that the Cougars have hosted the league championship in Provo.

Both BYU and San Diego State, who finished second with a 5-0-2 record, get first round byes, and will play in the two semifinal games on Thurs. Nov. 5.

The winner of the conference tournament gets an automatic bid to the 2009 NCAA Women’s College Cup.

Quarterfinal - Game #2: No. 4 seed New Mexico vs. No. 5 seed Wyoming (3 p.m.)

Thurs. Nov. 5

Semifinal - Game #3: No. 2 seed SDSU vs. winner of game #1 (noon)

Semifinal - Game #4: No. 1 seed BYU vs. winner of game #2 (3 p.m.)

Sat. Nov. 7

Championship Game – Game #5: Winners of games #3 and # 4 (noon)
