Two Weekly Honors for Payne

PROVO -- Freshman Carlee Payne was named Offensive Mountain West Conference Player-of-the-Week by the league office, Monday, and to TOpDrawerSoccer.com's National Team-of-the-Week, Saturday.

Payne, a native of Pleasanton, Calif., scored a goal in all three of BYU’s games last week.

Against No. 20 Oklahoma State, Payne scored the tying goal in a 2-1 overtime win. She also added an assist on the game-winning goal. Despite losing to Washington State, 2-1, the forward scored the Cougars’ only goal of the game just nine minutes into the match. Payne also scored the tying goal in BYU’s 2-1 win at Montana.

The freshman has started every game this year for the Cougars and scored a goal in five out of the seven.

Payne was also chosen as the only player from the MWC to be named to TopDrawerSoccer's National Team of the Week for the week ending September 13 .

Next up for the Cougars is a game against Northwestern in Evanston, Ill., on Thursday and a game Saturday against Arizona in Tuscon, Ariz.
