Preseason Poll Ranks Cougars 25th

PROVO, Utah (Aug. 16, 2009) In the first 2009 poll released by the NCAA, the BYU women’s soccer team is ranked No. 25 in the NSCAA Pre Season Poll released this week.

Three of this year's opponents were also ranked in the preseason poll. Oklahoma State was ranked 11th, West Virginia placed 14th and Washington State was ranked 21st.

The Cougars finished the 2008 campaign ranked 20th by the NSCAA with a 16-5-1 record. They ended the year ranked No. 19 nationally by SoccerBuzz, and sixth in the West Region. Soccertimes ranked the Cougars 22nd nationally.

BYU opens the 2009 season at the University of Hawaii on August 21. They play Connecticut and West Virginia in Pennsylvania on Aug. 29 and 31.

The team’s home opener is against William & Mary on Friday, Sept. 4 at 7 p.m. They also host Oklahoma State on Monday, Sept. 7 at 12 p.m.

Last week the Cougars were picked to win the 2009 MWC Regular Season title, in a Preseason Coaches’ Poll. This year’s conference tournament will be played at South Field Nov. 4-7. BYU won both the regular season and the conference tournament crowns last year.
