PROVO, Utah (April, 23, 2009) – Current and former members of the MWC Champion BYU women’s soccer team will travel to Nicaragua with shoes and other donated supplies.

“This is a great opportunity for the girls to serve,” said BYU head coach Jennifer Rockwood. “We’re going to visit a part of the world we’ve never been to and we’re glad we can be there for a few days to help. I’m sure it’ll be a life-changing experience for the girls.”

Members of the team, who are all paying their own way, were invited to make the trip by the non-profit organization CauseForHope.org. The team collected gently used shoes at their tournament this spring and will be distributing them along with soccer supplies and other items. They will leave Tuesday, April 28th, and return Monday, May 4th.

“I’m really excited to go,” said sophomore forward Lauren Anderson. “It’s a new experience, and I think it will benefit me as much as it will the people we’re going to help. It will be an eye-opening experience.”

Video updates from the trip will be posted at www.byucougars.com after the team returns.
