PROVO -- The BYU women's soccer team battled Big East foe to a scoreless tie after 90 minutes, but fell 1-0 after the Golden Eagles scored eight minutes into the first overtime Saturday night in Milwaukee.

"I felt like our team bounced back well from our last game," said head coach Jennifer Rockwood. "Obviously we're disappointed with the outcome, but it's a step in the right direction and it's going to help us learn and grow stronger as a program."

Both BYU and Marquette battled back and forth during the game, with each team missing key opportunities to score during the game.

"Marquette is a tough team, especially at home," said Rockwood. "We had chances and they had chances and they were able to make theirs' count. We played much better."

Eight minutes into the overtime period, Sophomore forward Rosie Malone-Polvolny received a pass from Britni Benage and was able to put the ball past freshman Cougar keeper McKinzie Olson. Olson was making her second start this year, and recorded five saves.

Freshman forward Auna Janis led the Cougars with three of the Cougars' 12 shots.

Corner kick opportunities were prevalent for both teams, especially during the second half, with BYU notching one more that the Golden Eagles. six to five.

The pressure intensified during the last 10 minutes of regulation, as both teams attempted to score and prevent the game from going in to overtime.

The Cougars are on the road again on Sept. 11, when they face Long Beach State in Long Beach, Calif. That match will kick off at 4:30 p.m.

BYU will then return home and face Idaho State at South Field on Saturday, Sept. 13 for a 7:00 p.m. match.
