No. 26 Cougars on the road against William & Mary, No. 25 Marquette
PROVO -- Coming off of two big home wins, the No. – Cougars head on the road to face William & Mary of the Colonial Athletic Association and Big East foe No. 25 Marquette.
Kickoff of the William & Mary game is at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 4, and the Marquette game will begin at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 6.
William and Mary comes in to the game with a 1-1-1 record. Most recently, they fought to a 0-0 tie with Washington State. The Tribe features two Hermann Trophy candidates in Claire Zimmeck and Dani Collins. Senior Forward Zimmeck is a co-captain on the team and was a semi-finalist for the award in 2007. She leads the team with three goals scored this season. Collins, a senior defender, was tied for second on the team with four goals during the 2007 season and was a third-team All American.
Marquette has a 3-0-0 record with wins over Loyola Chicago, Ohio State and Samford. Junior Kelly Wepking leads the Golden Eagles this year with two goals. In 2007, Marquette lost to Louisville, 1-0, in the Big East semi-finals.
The Cougars leave for this road trip coming off an emotionally hard-fought victory over Arizona on Sept. 1, downing the Wildcats 1-0. Sophomore Kassidy Christensen scored on a pass from freshman Lauren Anderson in the 78th minute.
Overall, Hermann Trophy candidate senior forward Katie Larkin leads the team with three goals, while Anderson has racked up four assists.
