Cougars Stumble in San Diego

SAN -- The BYU women's soccer team (11-2-2, 1-2-0) dropped another hard-fought battle Thursday in a 2-0 loss at San Diego State (7-6-2, 2-1-0), marking the first time since 2004 that the team has lost two games in a row.

The Cougars outshot the Aztecs 16-7, putting five of those shots on goal against SDSU's three. Junior Katie Larkin, BYU's leading goal-scorer with 12, fired six shots to lead all players. Natalie Nate-Henriksen, Kelsea Kakadelas, and Ashleigh Jameson also tallied two shots apiece for BYU.

In the eighth minute of the game SDSU struck first as senior Jessica Girdner scored on a corner kick to give BYU only its second deficit of the season. Three minutes later, senior Jackie Ragudos put the Cougars in their largest deficit of the year on a right-footed bender into the top right corner to give the Aztecs a 2-0 lead.

BYU will head to Colorado to meet the Air Force Falcons on Saturday at 5 p.m. The Cougars will be looking to even their conference record at 2-2-0 while the Falcons will be looking for their first conference win in 2007.
