History Repeats, BYU Wins on Larkin Goal

TUCSON -- For the eighth time this season BYU story is the same; the No. 16 Cougars (10-0-2) won on another goal from Hermann Trophy candidate Katie Larkin, this time against Arizona (5-6-0) Saturday in at 1-0 win in Tucson.

Larkin's goal was her ninth of the season and eighth game-winner. She leads the team in points with 22, shots with 39, and is tied for the lead in assists with two. The shutout was the team's ninth of the year, and senior keeper Erika Woodbury is three shutouts away from tying the BYU single-season shutout record of 12, which Woodbury herself set in 2006.

"It was a good battle against a very good team," BYU head coach Jennifer Rockwood said. "We played great team defense. Our back line was busy tonight, but they did a great job. Larkin keeps doing what she always does, and this was a great win for us."

Arizona became the first team in 2007 to fire more shots than BYU with the Wildcats hitting 11 to the Cougars' eight. Arizona was also awarded seven corner kicks to BYU's none.

Mountain West Conference play will get under way next week as the Cougars will host TCU and Utah at South Stadium on Thursday and Saturday, respectively. Live stats will be available for both games, and Saturday?s game will be shown live on BYUTV.
