Larkin Nets Second-Straight Game-Winner

LOGAN -- It took extra time before either team got on the board Saturday, but a left-footed shot from Katie Larkin in the sixth minute of overtime secured a 1-0 victory as BYU (6-1-0) defeated Utah State (2-5-0) in the face of a treacherous hail storm.

"I didn't feel like we got off to the start that we wanted, but we regrouped a little bit at the half and brought more energy to the game," head coach Jennifer Rockwood said. "The weather made for some difficult conditions, but we fought through it and came out with a win."

It was BYU's first-ever trip to Logan, and the Cougars now take a 4-0 all-time series lead.

BYU outshot Utah State, 22-8, including 13-2 in the second half and finished with a 10-3 advantage in shots on goal.

The Cougars had several chances, including opportune shots in the 53rd and 60th minute, but Ali Griffin made leaping, sprawling saves. In the 61st minute, a Cougar shot got past Griffin, but Alyssa Lowry was on the line to clear the ball away.

The lone goal of the game came after the Aggies attempted to clear the ball toward the midfield. Larkin gathered the ball, took a couple dribbles, planted her right foot and fired the left-footer just under the cross bar in the upper-right corner of the net.

Larkin also scored the golden goal against Pacific on Thursday.

BYU stays on the road this week with games against Washington and Washington State, respectively, on Thursday and Friday. Game times are slated for 7 p.m., and 4:30 p.m.
