White Team Wins Soccer Scrimmage
PROVO -- Katie Larkin scored in the final quarter of the annual Blue/White game to give the white team the 1-0 win, Wednesday, at South Stadium.
Larkin put the ball on the far left corner of the net at the 7:36 mark of the final quarter after getting a pass from Katie Fellows. Three 25-minute quarters were played in the scrimmage.
"It's fun to start a new year and to play on our game field," said head coach Jennifer Rockwood. "We're very pleased with the great things we saw on the field, lots of positive energy and enthusiasm."
Bobbi Tillitson and Annie Zwahlen had good looks in the early minutes of the first quarter, with more offensive pressure coming in the third quarter of play.
Amberlea Anderson had a shot from 20 yards out just two minutes into the third period that went wide past the right post. Two minutes later Larkin had a good look, but the ball went wide. Then Tillitson followed with another shot that sent the ball just over the crossbar.
On the night, there were a total of 13 shots on goal and six corner kick opportunities.
The Cougars have scheduled two exhibition games prior to the start of the season. They host Southern Utah Sat. Aug. 19 at 7 p.m. Tickets are $5 for adults and $4 for students. On Mon. Aug. 21, BYU battles Dixie State in a 5 p.m. kick off. That game is free to the public.
The 2006 home opener for the Cougars is on Aug. 25 when in-state rival Weber State comes to South Stadium in a 7 p.m. kick off.
