Perfect BYU faces No. 14 Wisconsin in Tourney
PROVO -- After a huge win against No. 22 Texas Monday evening, the BYU women's soccer team (6-0-0) looks to keep the momentum as they head to Wisconsin for the Big Toe Soccer Invitational this weekend. The Cougars challenge No. 14 Wisconsin (4-1-1) on Friday at 6 p.m. (MDT), and on Saturday they face Colgate (3-2-0) at 3:30 p.m. (MDT). The games will be played in Madison, Wisc. The University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee will also be competing in the tournament. Live stats will be available for both games.
In the Badgers' last game, they defeated Washington 2-1, Sunday at the Nike Invitational in Portland, Ore. Juniors Kara Kabellis and Allison Preiss each recorded their first goals of the season for the Badgers in the winning effort.
The Badgers offense is lead by Amy Vermeulen, who has scored four goals for eight points. Allison Preiss has assisted for three goals and scored one for her five points. Lynn Murray has recorded 25 saves in over 550 minutes of action.
This is the first meeting between the two schools.
Colgate University lost to the University of Connecticut Sunday afternoon in the final game of the UConn Classic, when the Huskies defeated the Raiders, 2-0. Franny Iacuzzi and Josie Johnson both made the All-tournament team.
Iacuzzi and Johnson front the Raiders' offensive attack with four goals and three assists apiece. Three other Colgate players have also tallied three assists. Luisa Miller has played almost 300 minutes in goal, saving the ball 13 times in four games.
BYU leads the series 1-0, as the Cougars defeated Colgate 2-0, on Aug. 20, 2003.
